Hello Everybody
this is Merlin Silk, your friendly systems administrator.
You might be wondering what endows and qualifies me to undertake this task of leading the compilation of everything 'new age.' Is it because I am so very smart? No, not really - I mean I AM smart but this is not what would qualify me.
I think a rough-cut of my story in this arena will show my qualifications.
I grew up in a christian oriented protestant family and just did what Lutherans do. This went until a bit after my full admission to the church through my confirmation at the tender age of 14. Doubts about all these stories crept in and as I am usually 100% in the things I do I quit the classes in religion in school and as soon as I was at the legal age of 18 I officially resigned as a member of the church.
Initially it nearly broke my mother heart as secretly she had hoped for me to choose the career of a minister. Fortunately she soon realized that I was still the same person she had always loved so she decided to continue to do so. I mentioned that I usually do things all the way - so not only did I resign from all things spiritual but also joined the other camp. One of the effects was that I joined the communistic basis group at my school and attended the meetings reading the words of Mao Tse Tung. That there were some cute girls in that group was not all the reason but I can't say that it did not help.
As a little side story here - can you imagine the funny situation when I took a liking of a girl who was a member of the youth branch of the Christian Democratic Party, the complete opposite of the socialistic basis group - Oh - love and politics!
I still lived with my parents and the Sunday morning were often filled with discussions about God and the world. Most of the time we ended up with the agreement that God's existence could neither be proven nor could his non-existence.
I was very scientifically oriented and loved anything that could explain the world in material terms. But then this science brought into my life the first glimpse that there was more than it between heaven and earth. It was the simple mystery to science why the group of birds can find the way south while a single bird can not and will die attempting so.
This little fact shifted my whole life around and I am still looking for an explanation that fully satisfies me. But my search so far has been fascinating. I studies the old religion again, this time with an orientation to really understand the basics in the way good ol' Jesus and Gautamo would have seen it.
Certainly I also looked into all new philosophies and religons, tried everything from urin therapy to scientology - - did I mention that I do everything at the 100% level if possible? This is how I got to Southern California, by the way, as I not only took some courses in scientology, no, I joined the sea org and worked at the inner sanctum.
This is many, many years ago and since then I have learned a lot of new and different viewpoints and what I learned so far can be crystallized into a single statement:
I am in charge and I can not delegate this.
I know it is pretty mean and I am still working on getting a real gut understanding of this simple fact.
So, what do you think, am I qualified?
